Where do we go from here?

Mina-san Konnbanwa~
As you may all be aware, with the shut down of Megaupload, filehosting companies are protecting themselves by deleting content, restricting the uploads of any new files and even restricting the downloading of files from anyone within the U.S.A.
We have been primarily using Fileserve, Uploadstation, Videozer and Videobb.  Unfortunately, these sites are all owned by the same company and our files are slowly being deleted.  Until we can find alternatives we only have the files on these sites available for you.

For those that still haven't downloaded what they want, I would suggest doing so before the files are deleted or my accounts are suspended.

Another problem which has arisen from the MU shut down is our ability to obtain clean raw files for subbing.  Hand and many other contributors over on the Gaki Fan Page have been great at uploading 100's of quality raw files, however most of these files were being hosted on MU, this leaves us with little to no access to raw files.  This isn't a problem now, but I foresee it becoming one in the future.

We are currently looking at Mediafire as an alternative for our hosting, but the drawbacks are the slow uploads, limited file size and bandwidth limits.   Although, MF states that they have unlimited bandwidth, we have seen situations where due to the volume of downloads, MF shuts down the links.

The second alternative would be a paid hosting service.  I really would not want to go this route as the bandwidth would be too expensive for us to maintain as this is a free site.  Although we do receive some revenue from downloads and a few donations, it will not be enough to cover this expense.

Video hosting alternative would most likely be Daily Motion, the drawbacks are that upload time is very slow and I have problems using the service, which is why I avoid it.   Veoh is an option, but I have already had my account deleted from there and the site not available for viewing in many countries.  Putlocker will remain, as it still hasn't been affected by the MU situation, but if something changes I will let everyone know.  Videozer and Videobb are not being considered at this time as files are not being processed even after uploading to those sites.

In the next coming weeks we will probably be testing several hosting sites and would appreciate input, good or bad for each host.

I'm not sure about the future of the filesharing scene after this turn of events, but we will try to figure out a way to keep this site up and running with new content for everyone.  Thank you everyone for your patience and continued support.  - Zurui

  4. A good idea would be one master torrent on piratebay with everything on this website.
People could choose what to download with their bittorent client and swap after each update (you don't need to redownload all the files you already got). I'm sure if we had ONE superb GnT torrent there would always be seeder ...

  6. mediafire and fileserve are gone now, i tried to download airport batsu from fileserve and don't let download, only premium users :( the best way to go is by torrents, well ONE master torrent with everything in my opinion would be too heave to download,in my case i don't have a fast internet connection but well that's up to you zurui, you can upload different torrents for example: one torrent with all gottsu ee kanji clips, another torrent with all the kiki clips..like that, i hope everything is resolved soon. cheers! sorry for my english, it's not my native language :p

  7. novaup.com is good too!

  8. I guess torrent is a good idea, pyrate bay doesn't seem to be affected by any of this...and if everybody seed, it could be faster than a direct download...

    ReplyDelete
  9. I really don't see where the problem is, IMHO , torrent is the way to go. A few seedboxes and you're good to go !

    ReplyDelete
  10. Torrent is definitely the way to go

    ReplyDelete
  11. Torrents suck, no seeds no love

  12. Well I've been a regular on this blog since the beginning and I have every file ever posted. I don't need torrents I just like to get what I want when I want and zurui has been great at keeping things going until this fiasco. My choice would be for multidownload or something similar.

  13. Torrents FTW we all love the work these guys put in... the only thing we can do for them is seed for something we are getting for FREE

    ReplyDelete
  14. just tell us the name of the account youre are going to use for the torrents.. and we seed it :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. i think i remember a long time ago that zurui said he didn't like torrents and that if someone wanted to torrent his stuff it would be ok

    ReplyDelete
  16. no torrent pls..MF is way better i think (:

  17. torrent is a no no no...

  18. apparently mediafire has to testify to the FBI within the next 90 days..

  19. Torrents are most of the time WAY faster than Direct Downloads and there is almost no risk of it being shut down (on thepiratebay) +the community get to give back by seeding + the argument about the size and internet connection speed is invalid since you can select what you want to download even in a huge file ...

    TORRENT FTW!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. For example, there is a torrent at piratebay with ten subbed batsu games (15 go) with 60 seeders for 60 leechers that has been up since 2010 !

    ReplyDelete
  21. More and more DDL sites are coming down, seems torrents will be the only way to go soon.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Torrent is the future like it or not, the best anonymous way to share. for the seeders problem, a simple request of reseed is enough most of the time ! Again, I do not understand where the problem is. Zurui you're perfectly right to try to gain something from your work using adf.ly, but there's other ways even using a tracker !

    ReplyDelete
  23. ask some donations, get a seedbox, n torrent all the files, easy simple n way better then http, about the donations there r some alternatives to adf.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thank you everyone for the input. Unfortunately torrents for me is not an option. Like "Anon" said, if anyone is willing to torrent the files that would be fine with me.

    1. What about Rapidshare Zurui? Or is there something wrong with that file sharing site that I don't know about. :S

  25. Torrents would nice. If you wanted to host them yourself I'd suggest Dreamhost. I use their services. They are cheap, around $9 a month. I pay by year so its even cheaper. Unlimited hosting and bandwidth. Just fyi.

  26. Maybe it's finally time to resort to good ol' bittorrent? Tokyo Toshokan, TPB, NyaaTorrents, or even a private tracker; it's your choice. You don't have to expose your IP address or waste bandwidth, Zurui. Just seedbox your files (fixed rates for unlimited bandwidth) and we'll all donate and seed as well.

You might also want to consider IRC as a good alternative. But it'd probably be more expensive.

About your problem with raws, have you ever tried Japanese P2P applications like Share EX2 or Winny? They have enormous amounts of quality raw files and are much more up-to-date than other sources. I downloaded all gottsu DVDs as full ISO files from there.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think its funny that this is about copyright. The thing is does copyright still count if companies won't release their shows to us. So there is no profit to be made from us from DVD's so why isn't fanned subbed shows OK?

I think torrents is the only choice unfortunately.

The only problem with that is through my experience of downloading torrents can be annoying most of the time as people don't like to seed! I seed every single torrent I download forever.

  28. I normally am quite rigid with trying out new streaming sites because they do dissapoint quite alot of the time, with just junk.

However, having paid the price of clicking through advertisements, random music etcetc.

I feel that Gorrilavid :http://gorillavid.com/ (somewhat new-ish i believe) is fast, and works well on MY end of this whole business. I would suggest that you guys take this chance to try it out, if loading for that is effective, i think it'd quite a good source.

Furthermore, i would like to propose a Divx link. From what i understand although people have some issues viewing the content, it holds quality like no other and any errors one might run into can be resolved with a little bit of digging. If it works, its pretty attractive. loads fast, plays smoothly and so on.

Those are the only two I know outside of Putlocker.sockshare that are reletively good. I hope it works out :) Cant wait for more GNT!

    Thanks~

  29. As for streaming, using China-based websites might be a good idea. Tudou and Youku immediately come to mind. Despite them being desperately slow, they are almost guaranteed to never remove your videos on grounds of IP infringement.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Torrents are okay, you just need to find a tracker that isn't blocked/restricted, like the piratebay is for Denmark. (I know you can DNS, but some people here don't know anything about those stuff)

Also, no chinese sites as the poster above me posted. Streaming from china is like having a 56k modem again. I don't like that when you have 1.4 gigs of things.

Rapidshare costs money and you can only download 1 file per what? 100 years?

    3. Torrents work for the majority of people who don't live in a police state like the US. I could probably provide 100/100mbit seeding if anyone is interested.

  37. as far as i can tell, the only filehost server that doesn't give a damn about what happend to others and still strongly going is Rapidshare... others i am not so confident to comment...

and yes torrent is also a great idea... but how long they'll be staying alive for? seeding and speed really, isn't that great in general... i am sure some off you said this already, just like to say my views too, since i really love this site and to stay alive & well for long long time.

Personal at the end I would first recommand Rapidshare, if that doesn't work out for you, I guess Torrent it is... might consider getting a seedbox at this point to keep the speed relatively decent.

I hope i did not bore you with my comments, all the best to you guys :) and keep up the great work.

    1. Well file downloads using torrents have always been much faster for me than any of the filesharing sites due to the speed restrictions they have.

Personally I can download files using torrents at the speed of 20 to 25 Mbit/s compared to the 1 to 1,5 Mbit/s that I can dowload the same files using hosting sites.

  40. 1st, like napster when it fell, it might take just a short time before somebody else in the world takes the MU takedown as an opportunity (to take its place). So waiting a bit with no panic should be wise. These events are too fresh.
BTW, I really want to see Ashita ga Arusa being all subbed! I've been waiting many years to see that.
You are doing a great job. Thank you and Keep it up!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Zurui, I think that torrents are your best bet, given how cohesive the gakifiles community is.

    ReplyDelete
  42. PIRATE BAY, and how is that a problem for you? also seeding is not a problem. its so popular that it will never go away. just look at the gaki one up right now, its been. going strong for 2 years. thats where i got all my stuff. dont be lazy

    ReplyDelete
  43. torrents or usenet, imo

  44. I love GNT and it's related shows so much.
But being in New Zealand, Torrenting is being watched from an Anti-Piracy law that was established last year.

If we're caught our internet is considered for disconnecting incl. a $15k+ fine.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey Zurui, i dont know how useful this is, but can't you just upload your vids on youtube as unlisted videos and put the links to those videos on this website?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just use Torrents.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Torrents aren't the answer. Personally from when I used torrents, they're not any faster for me than direct downloading. In fact, they were slower.
They could even take weeks to download one file because even if they were loads of seeds for the torrent, the seeders were never on during the time I was on. Also torrents eat up bandwidth so much and not everyone, like me, has unlimited bandwidth to seed and download with.
